A Tummy Tuck, or abdominoplasty, flattens the abdomen by removing excess fat and skin and tightening muscles of the abdominal wall. The best candidates for abdominoplasty are men or women who are in relatively good shape but are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin that won’t respond to diet or exercise.
The surgery is particularly helpful to women who, through multiple pregnancies, have stretched their abdominal muscles and skin beyond the point where they can return to normal. Loss of skin elasticity in older patients, which frequently occurs with slight obesity, can also be improved.
If you miss the days of having a flat, tight stomach, a Tummy Tuck is a safe, highly customizable way to restore your body to a healthy, attractive shape. Call the Wolin Plastic Surgery Center to learn more!
Why Choose Tummy Tuck at Wolin Plastic Surgery?
The original Tummy Tuck was designed to only reduce the excess skin of the abdomen, as well as tighten the abdominal wall muscles. That procedure was designed over 40 years ago before the advent of liposuction and the new art of body sculpting and fat transfer techniques.
Today, the most advanced plastic surgeons no longer view the tummy as an isolated 2 dimensional object. They see it as only one component of a 3 dimensional torso approach and understand that to achieve the greatest beauty and contour of the abdomen, the waist, the flanks, and the ribs must be considered. The truly artistic surgeon needs to incorporate all these areas into the overall abdominal torso rejuvenating procedure. Dr. Wolin embraces today’s comprehensive approach and performs a torso rejuvenation called a Lipo-Abdominoplasty. Using this technique, a curvaceous, more sensual body form is achieved .
Lipo-Abdominoplasty involves more liposculpting rather than surgical cutting and thus allows the patient a quicker and safer experience. The abdominal muscles are tightened using a self-locking suture and the deep layers of support are also tightened as an internal girdle.
He also utilizes a twilight type of anesthesia, without the usual post anesthesia sequela of nausea. Dr. Wolin additionally places an Ultrasound-guided long-acting local anesthetic ( TAP Block) into the abdominal wall, so that there is minimal to no pain following the experience.
All of these techniques define Dr. Wolin as a leader in not only aesthetic body surgery, but more importantly, as a leader in patient safety.

- Sculpt the abdomen into a more healthy, attractive contour.
- Natural-looking results. Dr. Wolin designs each treatment to the unique needs of the patient’s figure. The Tummy Tuck incision is made low between the hip bones, to guarantee that any scarring will be easily concealed by clothing or swimwear.
- Comfortable recovery, thanks to Dr. Wolin’s careful procedure and his placement of a post-procedure TAP Block.
- Long-term results. If patients maintain their weight with diet and exercise, the results of their Tummy Tuck will last for years!
If you have lost a significant amount of weight, have a stubborn stomach bulge, or have given birth, you may be a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck. Ideal candidates for Tummy Tuck are those who have loose skin on their flanks or abdomen, excess abdominal tissue, or stubborn, exercise-and-diet resistant abdominal fat.
Tummy Tuck patients should be in good overall health and free of pre-existing conditions which could affect your body’s ability to heal. Candidates who are dedicated to an active lifestyle and balanced diet will enjoy long-term results from their Tummy Tuck. Weight gain following a Tummy Tuck can interfere with the results of the procedure.
Due to the fact that smoking nicotine can affect blood flow, patients who smoke will need to discontinue smoking three weeks before and three weeks following their Tummy Tuck.
A Tummy Tuck is intended to be used as a body contouring solution to issues that would otherwise be unaddressable with diet, exercise, and other personal efforts. It is not intended to be used as a weight loss solution.
Good Tummy Tuck candidates are those who have optimistic but realistic expectations of the outcomes achievable with any cosmetic procedure. Thanks to Dr. Wolin’s cutting-edge Tummy Tuck technique, our patients find that their results often exceed their expectations!

You are invited to ask any questions that you may have during your consultation at Wolin Plastic Surgery Center. Dr. Wolin makes sure that every patient is well-informed and feels comfortable with their chosen cosmetic procedure.
During your private consultation, Dr. Wolin will discuss your medical history, medication and supplement use, and goals for your body’s appearance. Your current abdominal tissue will be examined. Once Dr. Wolin has a good understanding of your desired outcomes, he will work with you to customize a Tummy Tuck procedure to your unique body and goals.
If Dr. Wolin believes that you will be a better candidate to achieve your results with an alternative procedure, he will share his professional opinion with you. For example, patients who have excess skin and tissue on their flanks and back, as well as their abdomen, may see their ideal body contouring results with a Body Lift. Many women who have had children decide to receive a Mommy Makeover, which combines a Tummy Tuck with procedures like breast lift, breast augmentation, liposculpting, and fat transfer to restore a smooth, pre-baby body.
Tummy Tuck at Wolin Plastic Surgery Center is performed with twilight anesthesia, which will keep the patient comfortable but will not cause any post-procedure nausea.
A Tummy Tuck is performed by making a single incision between the patient’s hip bones, low in the abdomen. In some cases, patients who have a good deal of excess skin or tissue in the middle of the stomach may require an additional incision around their belly button in order to enable Dr. Wolin to remove this excess tissue. The belly button may need to be repositioned in some cases.
After Dr. Wolin has made the incision, he will repair or tighten the abdominal wall. Self-locking sutures and deep internal supports will act as a girdle, allowing the muscles to heal and strengthen.
Dr. Wolin will perform liposculpting to address patient’s excess fat and tissue. He prefers to perform more sculpting than surgical cutting in order to achieve beautiful, contoured results, as gently as possible. Using a slim cannula, Dr. Wolin will introduce tumescent fluid into the area to be treated.
Tumescent fluid is comprised of saline solution and anesthetic in order to keep patients comfortable and reduce any bleeding. The tumescent fluid will cause the unwanted fat to swell, making it easier to remove. Dr. Wolin will gently dislodge and suction out the fat with the cannula. In some cases, ultrasound waves may be used to help gently break down fat. This fat will be sculpted and redistributed as necessary to achieve patient’s ideal abdominal contour. This method allows Dr. Wolin to achieve a more curvaceous, full figure for interested patients.
Once a patient’s Tummy Tuck is complete, Dr. Wolin will use an Ultrasound to help him place a long-lasting local anesthetic, also known as a TAP block. This will reduce any discomfort the patient experiences during the first days of recovery.
Once the abdominal skin is placed in an attractive, tight contour over the muscle and tissue, your excess skin will be removed. The incision will be closed with sutures.
In some cases, patients may only experience loose skin and excess tissue in their lower abdomen, below their belly button. These patients are good candidates for a Mini Tummy Tuck. Like a standard tummy tuck, a Mini Tummy Tuck is performed with a smaller incision placed low in the abdomen. Dr. Wolin will tighten the abdominals below the belly button, perform liposculpting as necessary, and tighten excess skin, before closing the incisions.
Some patients may receive post-procedure drains to assist with healing. Patients will receive instructions for care of these drains.
The details of a patient’s surgery will vary based on their goals, their anatomy, and whether or not they will combine their Tummy Tuck with an additional body contouring procedure.
Patients will be monitored by our highly trained staff before they are approved to return home. Patients should ask a friend or family member to drive them home following their procedure, as patients should not drive at this time. Every patient will receive individualized recovery instructions. This information will include care of surgical drains and any post-procedure bandaging.
Patients are encouraged to rest as much as possible following their Tummy Tuck. Short, occasional walks are recommended to maintain healthy blood flow. Depending on the extent of work a patient receives, they will need to take one to two weeks off from their usual schedules. Bruising and swelling are not uncommon following a Tummy Tuck. These conditions will improve within six months.
Patients will receive instructions about approved methods of treating any discomfort. Avoid taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, like ibuprofen, during this period.
Patient’s abdomen will be noticeably smoother and flatter after their Tummy Tuck.
As post-procedure swelling diminishes, patients will continue to see improvements in their results. The body will accept the results of the procedure over the months following the Tummy Tuck, creating a more defined abdominal contour.
A Tummy Tuck turns a flabby, bulging, frustrating stomach into a tight, lean, attractive feature. Results are tailored to our patients. Some patients desire a more feminine, curvaceous abdomen, while others may desire a more toned appearance. Dr. Wolin and his team know how to give every unique patient their ideal abdominal shape, safely and comfortably.
Our Tummy Tuck patients share their stories of workouts, weddings, and beachside vacations, all made possible by their beautiful, slim results. With a healthy, balanced lifestyle, these results last for years!
