About Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that uses artificial implants or a fat transfer to enhance the volume and shape of the breasts. Each patient can choose from a variety of different implant types with different shapes and sizes. (1) Dr. Wolin will help each patient find the best type of breast implants for them.
Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone breast implants imitate the feel of natural breast tissue with a cohesive silicone gel filling. These implants vary in cohesiveness and firmness, with more cohesive gels providing a more structured feel that can reduce rippling, particularly in patients with thinner or less natural tissue. Silicone implants are FDA-approved for cosmetic use in patients aged 22 and older. Depending on the cohesiveness of the gel, they can provide varying levels of structure and firmness. (2)
Round Breast Implants
Round breast implants are shaped to provide an even fullness across the top and bottom of the breasts. These offer a perkier, more lifted appearance. Many women enjoy these implants because of the significant improvements in volume they provide.
Benefits
There are numerous benefits associated with breast augmentation, including:
- Balanced Proportions: Breast augmentation can create a more balanced and proportionate body shape, improving one’s overall figure.
- Improved Body Image: Many women report an improvement in their self-esteem and confidence after experiencing and enjoying their new figure.
- Correction of Asymmetry: Many women are born with unevenly sized breasts; breast augmentation allows for correction, resulting in improved symmetry.
- Restoration of Volume: Multiple events in a woman’s life can lead to volume loss, such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, and more. Breast augmentation can restore fullness, effectively addressing deflation.
- Tailored Treatment Options: With multiple implant materials, sizes, and shapes available, patients can select implants that fit their specific preferences, ensuring personalized outcomes.
- Better Fitting Clothing: A fuller bust can improve the way clothes fit on one’s body, allowing for greater freedom and flexibility in style and wardrobe choices.
- Long-Lasting Results: While not permanent, breast implants can last for at least a decade, providing patients with significant and lasting results for years.
Candidates
Suitable candidates for breast augmentation typically include women interested in enhancing the shape, size, volume, or symmetry of their breasts.
- All candidates interested in pursuing breast augmentation should be in good overall health without any underlying medical conditions that may inhibit healing.
- Realistic expectations should be held regarding what this procedure can accomplish.
- Patients should ideally be nonsmokers or prepared to quit using nicotine, marijuana, and vaping products several weeks in advance.
- It is also important that anyone who has undergone medically-assisted weight loss has finished their treatment and has been off their GLP-1 medications for at least four weeks.
Dr. Wolin will determine each patient’s candidacy during their consultation.
Personal Consultation
Each patient is asked to attend a personal consultation to plan their procedure. This consultation not only allows Dr. Wolin to meet each patient but also ensures that he recommends the best techniques and implants for a patient’s goals. At this appointment, Dr. Wolin will first explain each detail of breast augmentation before conversing with each patient about their medical history, concerns, and treatment goals. He may also recommend a breast ultrasound if you have undergone a previous breast augmentation and still have implants. This information will then be used to create a patient’s tailored treatment plan. Our team of highly accomplished staff will answer any questions you have and provide support throughout your entire breast augmentation process.

Preparation
Dr. Wolin will provide each patient with a personalized set of preparation instructions. Patients must follow all of these guidelines to ensure a smooth treatment process and a successful recovery phase.
Patients will need to temporarily stop using certain medications and supplements that contain blood-thinning properties. Any necessary prescriptions should be obtained ahead of time. Breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure. Transportation home with a trusted friend or family member should be arranged—taxi services are not approved unless they are designated as a licensed medical transfer service. If applicable, stop smoking several weeks in advance and refrain from using nicotine, marijuana, and vaping products throughout the recovery period. Alcohol consumption should also be avoided before and after the procedure.
Procedure
Breast Augmentation with Implants
Each procedure will begin with the cleansing and sanitization of the skin before intravenous (IV) sedation is administered to make the experience comfortable and avoid the negative side effects of general anesthesia.
Dr. Wolin will make an incision beneath the inframammary fold, or breast crease, also known as an inframammary incision. This placement allows any scarring to be easily hidden under clothing, maintaining low visibility. He will then create a pocket for the breast implants to rest in. The implants can either be placed above the pectoral muscle (subglandular placement) or below the pectoral muscle (submuscular placement), depending on patient anatomy and goals.
Fat Grafting
If patients choose to enhance their procedure by combining both implants and fat grafting, Dr. Wolin will use liposuction to harvest fat from elsewhere on the body. Common areas for fat removal include the flanks, abdomen, and thighs.
The harvested fat will be processed and purified to reintroduce only the healthiest cells. The processed fat will be carefully reinjected into the breasts to enhance contour, soften the edges of the implants, and provide a more natural look.
If needed, either fat grafting or implant augmentation may be performed simultaneously with a breast lift. This can help address sagging breast tissue and malpositioned nipples, allowing Dr. Wolin to achieve the best and most flattering breast shape possible.
Recovery & Results
Because of Dr. Wolin’s innovative techniques, recovery often only takes a week. During the initial healing phase, it is common for women to experience bruising or swelling, but these effects can be managed through the use of prescribed medication and rest. Most patients can return to light exercises approximately two days after their procedure; however, physical or high-intensity activities should be avoided until approved by Dr. Wolin.
Once healed, each patient will be able to enjoy their new figure. Women can experience more symmetrical, shapely, sculpted, and enhanced proportions. The results of breast augmentation can last for 10-15 years or longer before the implants need to be replaced.
The full recovery timeline for each patient will vary and will be discussed further with Dr. Wolin. He will provide detailed post-operative instructions to each patient during their personal consultation.
Corresponding Procedures
Breast Lift
A breast lift is a cosmetic procedure performed to elevate the position of the breasts to address breast ptosis and malpositioned nipples without adding additional volume. Over time, the breasts can start to sag or deflate due to various factors such as aging, pregnancy, and gravity, which can lead to diminished self-esteem. Dr. Wolin can perform a breast lift to help eliminate excess tissue and restore an uplifted, perky appearance to the chest.
Cost of Breast Augmentation in Scottsdale
