A hair transplant is a procedure that restores new hair growth to areas of the scalp experiencing thinning or shedding. Hair loss is a distressing event and can occur for many reasons, including genetics, hormonal changes, or the side effects of medication. (1) With a hair transplant, you can restore thicker, more luscious locks that you can enjoy for years to come!

I, Dr. Andrew Wolin, am a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and the medical director of the Wolin Plastic Surgery Center. Alongside my double board-certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Ear, Nose, and Throat/Facial Surgery, I have more than three decades of experience in medicine. In this time, I have worked hard to combine innovative technology, artistry, and biology to create natural-looking results that patients can feel proud to flaunt.

About Hair Transplants

Hair transplants can restore the appearance of a fuller, denser head of hair. This procedure takes healthy hair follicles from the back and sides of the scalp and transplants them into areas experiencing thinning or shedding to promote new hair growth and coverage. (2)

Hair loss can occur for many reasons, with the most common being androgenetic alopecia, or male/female pattern hair loss. This condition is most prevalent in men, with 30%, 40%, and 50% experiencing this condition at 30, 40, and 50 years of age, respectively. This condition may also affect up to 38% of women older than 70 years. (3) While these numbers may seem staggering, hair loss does not need to be permanent. With the NeoGraft hair transplantation machine, I can repopulate your scalp, revitalizing your appearance and well-being.

About NeoGraft

The NeoGraft hair transplantation machine is an FDA-approved follicular unit harvesting and implantation system that can perform follicular unit extraction (FUE) procedures. This is a method of hair transplantation that individually extracts the hair follicles using a circular punch tool to minimize surrounding tissue damage and scarring. (2) This innovative piece of technology uses suction technology to harvest the most viable hair follicles from your scalp, bypassing the risk for human error and inconsistencies to enhance your results and your overall experience. The NeoGraft system also gives me the ability to switch quickly between harvesting your follicles and implanting them, shortening the overall duration of your hair transplant. With the NeoGraft, you can attain a full head of hair without the pain, lengthy treatment time, and damage of manual hair transplantation.

Benefits

Undergoing a hair transplant offers numerous benefits, including:

  • Minimally Invasive Techniques: Hair transplants offer significant results without the same invasive nature and downtime associated with surgical intervention.
  • Blended Results: I carefully design the placement of your grafts to blend with your scalp’s natural hair growth patterns.
  • No Linear Scarring: FUE hair transplants individually extract your hair follicles, allowing them to hide beneath both shorter and longer hair styles easily.
  • Long-Lasting Results: The results of a hair transplant are permanent, allowing you to enjoy your enhanced appearance for years to come.
  • Customized Solutions: Each procedure I perform accounts for your medical history, scalp concerns, scalp health, and desired results.
  • Elevated Confidence: Addressing your hair loss can help you feel more positive about yourself and restore a sense of pride in your appearance.

Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for a hair transplant if you have experienced thinning, shedding, a receding hairline, or a widening part. You will need to possess good overall health and maintain realistic expectations regarding the results of your procedure. You should also be nonsmoking or willing to quit using nicotine.

I do not recommend this procedure for anyone who was recently pregnant, has certain autoimmune conditions, has exposure to chemotherapy, or is experiencing inflammation alongside their hair loss. After assessing your medical history and scalp health at a consultation, I will determine your candidacy.

Personal Consultation

During your personal consultation, I will meet with you one-on-one to discuss what a hair transplant consists of and if it will be an effective procedure for your needs. I will ask you several questions about your medical history, skin concerns, and personal goals. I will also perform a physical assessment to evaluate your hair loss patterns, as well as the condition and quality of your scalp. With all of this information, I can create a one-of-a-kind solution to restore your luscious locks.

This consultation also serves as a great opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns you may have, as I dedicate this time to you and your specific procedure.

To schedule this consultation, please submit our online contact form or call (480) 945-8440.

Preparation

After scheduling your procedure, I will give you a set of detailed pre-operative instructions to help you prepare for your hair transplant. These instructions may vary depending on the details of your treatment plan, but you must follow them closely. I may have you:

  • Discontinue taking any medications or supplements that may thin your blood, as this can increase your risk of bleeding during the procedure.
  • Arrange transportation for your procedure.
  • Prepare to take some time away from your career and social commitments to focus on resting.
  • Refrain from using any nicotine products in the weeks leading up to your procedure until you have attained a full recovery.
  • Fill any prescriptions in advance so that you have them ready when you return home.

By following each provided direction, you can ensure your safety and the best possible results from your hair transplant.

Procedure

At the start of your hair transplant, I will shave the back or sides of your head. This area will be the donor area where I pull grafts from. I will also administer a local anesthetic to enhance your comfort during your experience.

With the NeoGraft machine, I will carefully extract the hair follicles from your scalp. These hairs are resistant to the hormones that influence hair loss, meaning they will remain in place after the transplant. The machine will use air-pressured suction and a circular punch tool to gently retrieve your grafts while minimizing scarring and damage to your scalp.

During the process, I keep the harvested grafts in a solution to preserve them and begin placing incisions around the treatment area. I carefully make each incision in different directions and angles to replicate the natural growth patterns of your hair. After preparing the recipient area, I place the harvested grafts in the incisions, ensuring that the final results grow out seamlessly blended with your natural hair.

Recovery

After your hair transplant, you may experience some tenderness, redness, or swelling around the treated areas. These effects will gradually subside on their own with time, but you may also reduce them using a cold compress, medications I prescribe, and plenty of rest. You must refrain from washing your hair for the first 24-48 hours of your recovery, but you can use a gentle shampoo afterwards.

You must refrain from touching or pulling at your newly transplanted grafts, as they will be easily removable during the first few days to weeks after your procedure. As your scalp continues to heal, it will become harder to remove these grafts. You may return to light activities as soon as the day after your procedure. However, you will need to avoid engaging in strenuous or physically demanding activities until I clear you.

I will give you a full set of post-operative instructions to help you care for your scalp as it heals. These directions will help you navigate any activity restrictions, reintegrate certain hair care products back into your routine, and tend to your newly transplanted grafts.

Results

You may notice signs of growth after approximately three to four months, but you may experience the full results of your hair transplant approximately 6 to 12 months after your initial procedure. Your hair will initially appear fine, but will become thicker and denser with time. As your hair continues to grow, you can trim, cut, and style it as you please, as the results of a hair transplant are permanent. I intentionally design the placement of your hair grafts to blend seamlessly with your pre-existing hair, allowing you to enjoy a natural-looking appearance that can be enjoyed for years to come.

Corresponding Procedures

Beard and Mustache Grafting

I can also perform beard and mustache grafting to restore fuller, denser facial hair. Facial hair is often a source of masculinity and pride for many men, and the inability to grow or maintain a beard can be upsetting. Similar to a scalp hair transplant, I take healthy hair follicles from the back or sides of your head and transplant them to various regions of the face, allowing you to attain your desired appearance without medications, ointments, or ineffective hair products.

Cost of Hair Transplants in Scottsdale

The cost of your hair transplant can vary depending on several aspects of your treatment plan, including the size of your treatment area, the number of hair grafts that the procedure requires, whether I integrate any additional treatments into your hair transplant, and more. After covering all these details at your consultation, I will provide a comprehensive cost estimate.
