About Ultrasound Piezotome Rhinoplasty
What is Ultrasound Piezotome surgery? Nasal surgery of the past utilized more primitive techniques to break nasal bone and cut nasal cartilage. Now, with the use of an Ultrasound device called a Piezotome, there are no more chisels, hammers, or clippers. The surgery is performed more precisely with less nasal and facial swelling as well as minimal black and blue around the eyes. Patients undergoing the procedure cannot believe how quickly they are healing and are ecstatic with their short as well as long-term results.
Nose enhancement can be performed on any part of the nose to increase or reduce its size; to modify the size and shape of the nostrils, tip or bridge of the nose; or to alter the slope or angle of the nose. Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) may also be performed to correct an injury or birth defect, or to improve breathing.

Benefits
The primary advantage of rhinoplasty is that the surgery will be personalized to give you the nose you want.
The nose is the central point of the face and impacts the symmetry of your face and outline of your profile. A nose job can drastically improve your profile and restore balance to your appearance. It’s amazing how transformative a rhinoplasty is!
Dr. Wolin can improve your nose’s breathing function as well as improve the delicate curves of your nose. Patients who come to Wolin Plastic Surgery receive their best nose job experience. Don’t wait any longer to see Dr. Wolin’s beautiful, transformative results!
Candidates
Both men and women receive nose correction surgeries. This procedure is sought after by people of all ages! An ideal candidate will be healthy and have realistic expectations of what this surgery can accomplish. If you have a deviated septum or are bothered by the shape of your nose, it may be time to consider rhinoplasty. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Wolin to learn more about what a rhinoplasty entails.
Your Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery) Consultation
During your rhinoplasty consultation, Dr. Wolin will ask you what bothers you about your nose. He will then explain, in layman’s terms, what he can do to resolve the problems. Pictures are taken so that your nose can be photo-imaged on a computer screen.
Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) may also be performed to correct an injury or birth defect, or to improve breathing.
Dr. Wolin will use his medical and artistic expertise to create a more acceptable look for your nose. Your entire face is considered, and you may be offered several different rhinoplasty options to consider. You and Dr. Wolin will discuss the enhancement options and together you will settle on a surgically reachable look for your new nose. Some rhinoplasty surgeries are more difficult than others, so if you request a modification to your nose that is not reasonable, Dr. Wolin will explain why that is and guide you to a realistic expectation.
Most plastic surgeons do not do rhinoplasty surgery, but because Dr. Wolin is double board certified by The American Board Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and The American Board of Otolaryngology, he is considered one of the best nose surgeons in Arizona.
Preparation
In your consultation, Dr. Wolin will have instructed you how to prepare for your surgery. Following these instructions will help you have a positive and healthy treatment. Along with these instructions, we suggest you also take some steps to make sure you are ready for the procedure.
Set aside an area in your home where you can rest without being bothered or disturbed. Rest is very important and it will be helpful to have an area you can retreat to get a peaceful sleep.
Pick up prescribed medications a few days before surgery so you can have access to them after treatment.
Patients need to fast only 8 hours or so before the surgery and sips of water can be taken up to 6 hours before the procedure.
Dr. Wolin performs all his rhinoplasties in his on-site state-of-the-art operating suite under a twilight-only anesthetic. An anesthesiology doctor is always present to monitor the patient during their twilight nap.
By using a long-acting local anesthetic, the patient has absolutely no pain following the procedure and can walk out of the operating room at the conclusion of the procedure on his or her own.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call our office so we can assist you.
Procedure
In most procedures, the skin of the nose is gently lifted away from the bone and cartilage framework beneath which is then shaped and sculpted as desired. In this way, the gentle vibrating tools of the Ultrasonic device can be carefully used to sculpt, separate, and produce a beautiful final result. The skin is then re-draped over the “new” framework, and a splint is applied to help your nose maintain its new form. In some cases, nasal packs or soft splints may be inserted in the nostrils to provide additional stability.
Most of the surgeries average about one-half to two hours of operative time. This provides a safe, easy and quick recovery from the anesthetic and a very easy and comfortable post-op experience.
A small piece of cotton is placed in the nose following the surgery and is removed the following morning. There are no uncomfortable nasal packs used, only a small dressing under the nose is used to absorb any drainage.
Recovery
With the use of the Ultrasonic technique, there is minimal bruising. Mild swelling and discomfort can be expected, but all can be alleviated with cold compresses and medication prescribed by Dr. Wolin. Splints and stitches are removed in about a week, and you can usually return to work or non-strenuous activities within a week or two (The most visible swelling and bruising are usually gone within two weeks). Strenuous activities may be resumed within four to six weeks.
Results
You will notice an improvement in your nose after the surgery. As the swelling and bruising decreases, your results will become clear. These results are long-lasting! You should be able to enjoy your newly sculpted nose for many years.

FAQs
What is a Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is a nose operation to reduce and reshape the nose. This procedure is done meticulously and can include changing the size of the nose, improving the size and shape of the nostrils, tip or bridge of the nose and to alter the angle of the nose.
The current state of the art for rhinoplastic surgery is the use of a specialized vibrating tool called the Ultrasonic Piezotome. This instrument has a special ability to only affect bone and cartilage during the surgical procedure. None of the delicate soft tissues which make up the ultimate form and external appearance are damaged during the procedure. This adds not only a safety factor, but also a predictability factor in producing the best long-term results.
This surgery requires an eye for detail and an in-depth understanding of the symmetry of the face. Nose plastic surgery is very popular and has a big impact on the overall appearance of the face. If you are interested in a nose job we encourage you to reach out to our office today to learn more!
Is a nose job painful?
A nose job shouldn’t be painful. The procedure is done under twilight anesthesia and any discomfort after treatment can be controlled with prescribed pain medication. If you experience pain for a long period of time, please reach out to our office so we can assess your nose and ensure everything is healthy.
How long does it take to recover from rhinoplasty?
After one week, materials used in surgery like splints or stitches will be removed. It will take about one to two weeks for the majority of swelling to go down and for you to be able to return to work. Your final results will set in after a couple of months once your nose has fully healed and transitioned to its new shape.
How much time do I need off work for a rhinoplasty?
You should take at least one week off from work. Every person will heal on their own time and so this timeline may fluctuate. Dr. Wolin and you will work together to determine a healthy amount of time to take off from work.
Can I get a rhinoplasty consultation and surgery done on the same day?
No. A nose job needs to be planned out and scheduled. A consultation will have to be done a few weeks to a few months before surgery. There is a lot of forethought that is put into rhinoplasty and the surgical time will need time to prepare. You will also need time to mentally prepare and ask for recovery time from work.
How much is nasal surgery done by an expert?
Rhinoplasty costs fluctuate based on the patient’s desired result. Anesthesia, time, and the material used in surgery will impact the overall price. To learn more about the costs involved in a nose job, give our office a call so we can inform you!
Can you touch your nose after rhinoplasty?
You should avoid touching your nose after surgery. Touching, bumping, or pressing on your nose may further irritation and cause infection. Let your nose adjust and avoid manipulating it.
