Offered at our convenient location in Scottsdale, Arizona
An upper eyelid lift (upper blepharoplasty) is a procedure that improves the appearance of your eyes by removing sagging skin and fat for a more youthful, awake complexion. After an eyelid lift, you can enjoy a younger, refreshed appearance. Excess skin above your eyes can affect your field of vision and your ability to function in your daily life. In a recent study, approximately 70% of upper blepharoplasties were functional. (1)

About Upper Eyelid Lift
Collagen production in our skin decreases with age, and fine lines and wrinkles begin to form. Sagging skin can create the appearance of what are colloquially known as “hooded” eyes, creating a heavy and tired appearance. Upper eyelid sagging is often part of the natural aging process but can also be caused by factors such as genetics, trauma, or underlying medical conditions. These facial changes can make it difficult to see clearly. The issue is extremely common, and in 2020, surgeons performed approximately 325,000 blepharoplasties to eliminate sagging skin above the eyes. (2)
If you have moderate to severe sagging around the eyes, an upper eyelid lift will restore your appearance. With an upper eyelid lift, we can:
- Enhance your appearance: An upper eyelid lift can help you look younger, more awake, and brighten your eyes. Removing excess skin can also improve your facial aesthetics and proportions.
- Rejuvenate the eye area: With an upper eyelid lift, we can reduce signs of aging and improve the small wrinkles and lines formed by excess, droopy skin.
- Improve your field of vision: Removing excess skin with an upper eyelid lift can reduce eye strain to help you feel more comfortable.
Upper Eyelid Lift Benefits
The benefits of an eyelid lift include:
- A more youthful appearance
- Looking more awake
- A fast recovery time
- Improved self-esteem
- Fast, well-tolerated procedure
- Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
Why Choose Dr. Wolin for Your Blepharoplasty?
Dr. Wolin is the premier eyelid surgeon in Scottsdale, known for his holistic approach to eye aesthetics. He meticulously evaluates not just the eyes, but the surrounding facial features, understanding their impact on your overall appearance. In some cases, he will augment the eyelid lift by adding microfat to the surrounding eye area, to round out and balance the eyes with the rest of the face. Dr. Wolin’s goal is to create beautiful eyes by removing excess skin and expertly blending the eyes with the rest of the upper face, ensuring harmonious and natural-looking results.
Upper Eyelid Lift Candidates
Ideal candidates for an upper eyelid lift include individuals who:
- Have droopy or sagging upper eyelids
- Experience impaired vision due to excess skin on the upper eyelids
- Feel self-conscious about the appearance of their upper eyelids
- Are in good overall health
- Have realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure
During your personal consultation with Dr. Wolin, he will evaluate your specific concerns and determine if an upper eyelid lift is the right procedure for you.
Consultation
During your first consultation, Dr. Wolin will discuss your current medications, lifestyle, and medical history. Please come prepared to discuss your cosmetic goals. He will examine your eyes, paying meticulous attention to your eyes and their relationship with surrounding facial features. If you need additional techniques to meet your goals, such as adding microfat to balance your features, he will create a treatment plan unique to you. Some patients wish to remove excess skin beneath the eyes as well for a complete eye makeover (quad blepharoplasty).
Skin Care
During your consultation, we will ask about your routine and recommend products to help you care for your skin. Taking care of your skin is one of the best ways to extend the results of your eyelid lift. Using the right products for your skin, wearing sunscreen, and following a consistent self-care routine is critical for preserving your results. We offer several skincare products to help you look your best. We also offer anti-aging treatments in our med spa to help you feel and look your best.

How to Prepare for an Upper Eyelid Lift
To prepare for an upper eyelid lift, you will need to stop smoking approximately 6 weeks before your procedure. You will also need to stop taking blood thinning medication 1-2 weeks before. Please arrange for an adult you trust to drive you home and monitor you for the first 24-48 hours after your procedure for a comfortable, safe recovery. Please arrive for your procedure in comfortable clothing. On the day of your eyelid lift, do not wear makeup, gel, mousse, or hairspray. If you usually wear jewelry, leave it at home.
Upper Eyelid Lift Procedure
During an upper eyelid lift, Dr. Wolin will use local anesthesia and sedation to help you relax. He will cleanse and mark your eyelids for surgery. Next, he will make a small incision along your upper eyelid to remove excess skin and fat that is drooping above the eyes and creating a tired appearance. To enhance the appearance of the eyes further, tightening the tissue in the outer third of the brow and temple might be necessary. This aims to alleviate any downward pressure from the temple and outer brow region on the upper lids. By incorporating lifting and micro fat filling, Dr. Wolin adds support to the brow corner and temple, preventing these areas from drooping into the eye frame. These minor adjunctive procedures can be conveniently performed during the upper lid skin removal.
Upper Eyelid Lift Recovery
During your recovery from an upper eyelid lift, you will need to rest your eyes. Most patients can return to work after 2 weeks. We will make a follow-up appointment 5-7 days after the procedure to remove sutures. Many patients appreciate this procedure due to the fast recovery time and life-changing results. You will not be able to wear makeup while your eyes heal and will need to be careful about the skincare products you use.
Upper Eyelid Lift Results
After an upper eyelid lift, you will no longer have loose, droopy skin and can enjoy a more youthful appearance. The results are long-lasting and patients are able to enjoy brighter, younger-looking eyes for several years. Taking care of your skin will be essential for maintaining long-lasting results.
Corresponding Treatments
Our facial rejuvenation procedures remove excess skin and eliminate wrinkles to restore your youthful appearance.
Facelift
A facelift removes excess skin from the face to smooth wrinkles and elevate sagging tissues. During the procedure, Dr. Wolin will make a thin, discrete incision along your hairline and around the ears to reposition your skin and eliminate wrinkles. The incision is well-hidden for a natural look. Both a traditional facelift and mini facelift will help you achieve smoother skin, and reduced wrinkles, with minimal scarring for natural-looking results and a more youthful complexion.
Browlift
A brow lift is a procedure that removes wrinkles and fine lines from the forehead for a smoother, more youthful appearance. The procedure is similar to a facelift, but Dr. Wolin will target the forehead instead of your entire face. Dr. Wolin will make a discrete incision along your hairline to reposition your skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. After a brow lift, you can enjoy a smoother forehead and natural, long-lasting results.
