Post-Hair Transplant PRP

Offered at our convenient location in Scottsdale, Arizona

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is a minimally invasive treatment that uses the natural properties of whole blood to flood a healing area with cells, growth factors, and more. After a hair transplant, PRP helps to elevate the results and effectiveness of the procedure. This injectable treatment contains several cellular components that are beneficial for hair restoration, allowing you to heal faster and achieve thicker, denser locks.

About Post-Hair Transplant PRP

Post-hair transplant platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a treatment that uses the cellular components of your blood to enhance the effects of a hair transplant procedure.

Hair loss affects hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. (1) Even though it is naturally occurring, it can diminish one’s appearance and self-confidence greatly, as hair is a form of self-expression and source of confidence for many.

Because of how important it can be, many patients experiencing hair loss choose to undergo hair restoration procedures and adjunct treatments to look and feel like themselves again, one of them being platelet-rich plasma injections.

How Does Platelet-Rich Plasma Work?

PRP is a serum containing small amounts of plasma proteins and a higher concentration of platelets than that of normal blood. (2) It contains several biological components necessary for hair growth, including over 20 types of growth factors. (3) A few notable ones include platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor TGF-β1), and the basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF). As these growth factors are released, they work to regulate cell migration, manage cell proliferation, and promote angiogenesis—each of which can create an ideal environment for wound healing and the survival of your newly implanted hair grafts. Benefits

There are numerous benefits that you can experience when receiving post-hair transplant PRP, including:

  • High Safety Profile: Dr. Wolin derives PRP from a sample of your own blood, so allergic reactions or complications are reduced.
  • Minimally-Invasive Techniques: Dr. Wolin administers these treatments via injection, bypassing any scarring or the use of incisions and general anesthesia,
  • Lasting Results: Once your hair begins to grow back, you will be able to wear, cut, and style it as you please.
  • Little-to-No Downtime: You can return to most of your daily activities immediately after your appointment.
  • Quick to Perform: Dr. Wolin can administer your PRP injections in less than 90 minutes in most cases.

Candidates

Candidates for post-hair-transplant PRP are those who recently underwent a hair transplant procedure and wish to enhance their results to achieve newer, thicker, and denser growth. Each potential patient should also lead a nicotine-free lifestyle or be willing to quit.

Your eligibility is at the discretion of Dr. Wolin and his team. He will finalize this during your personal consultation.

Personal Consultation

Before receiving your PRP and/or before your hair transplant, you will need to attend a personal consultation with Dr. Wolin at his Scottsdale office. During your visit, he will discuss how post-hair-transplant PRP works, assess your medical history, ask about your desired results, and perform a physical examination on your scalp.

He will then use this information to create a tailored treatment plan for you. He will explain what to expect during your appointments, how you should prepare, and what the recovery process will look like. He will also address any lingering questions you may have.

To schedule this consultation with Dr. Wolin, please contact us online or call (480) 945-8440.

Procedure

When you first arrive for your appointment, a member of Dr. Wolin’s team will take you to a private treatment room. Here, Dr. Wolin will meet with you one last time to answer and address any lingering questions you may have. He will then cleanse your skin and take a blood sample from your arm, similar to that of a doctor’s appointment.

Dr. Wolin will process the blood sample in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the other cellular components of your blood. He will inject this concentrated solution into the areas of your scalp that received grafts. The solution will then start to secrete the growth factors it contains within 10 minutes of being injected, with it releasing more than 95% of growth factors within one hour. (3)

Recovery

After your appointment, Dr. Wolin will release you from his care. Because post-hair transplant PRP is a minimally invasive procedure, the recovery process is generally very straightforward.

You will be able to return to most of your routine activities immediately after your treatment. However, Dr. Wolin may direct you to refrain from showering, harsh exercise, or using specific hair products for the first 24 to 48 hours of your recovery. During this time, you may also experience some initial swelling or tenderness near each of your injection sites. These effects are transient and will dissipate on their own shortly after, but you may also manage them using over-the-counter pain medications.

Dr. Wolin will give you any further information when he sees you in person.

Results

Post-hair transplant PRP yields gradual results that can take several months to develop. While your results will vary, most patients see initial growth starting between 3 and 6 months after their initial injections, with fuller effects developing after approximately one year. Your hair may appear finer or thinner when it first grows back, but you can expect the hair to become thicker and denser as it continues to grow.

For the best results, Dr. Wolin recommends undergoing a series of regular treatments spaced over 4 to 6 weeks.

Corresponding Procedures

Dr. Wolin can perform post-hair-transplant PRP after completing another hair restoration procedure, such as the Neograft or beard and mustache grafting.

Neograft for Men & Women

NeoGraft is an FDA-approved technology that can streamline the follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair restoration process. It automates the process of taking healthy follicles from the back of the head and transplanting them to areas experiencing thinning or shedding. It avoids leaving any linear scars, making it inclusive for those who like to wear their hair either long or short.

Beard and Mustache Grafting

Beard and mustache grafting is a hair restoration procedure that can help men achieve thicker and fuller facial hair. This treatment uses the NeoGraft machine to harvest hair follicles that are resistant to thinning or shedding and transplant them to the lower portion of the face. With this treatment, you achieve the rugged, masculine appearance you have been striving for.

Cost of Post-Hair Transplant PRP in Scottsdale, AZ
